I checked my iPad Pro 2020 model with Samsung T5 SSD bro. it works. the same should be working with iPad Air as my per my understanding.

Samsung T7 SSD is also there but it has fingerprint sensor. If thats not necessary, you may go with Samsung T5 for iPad Air with USB C port. and other USB C Pen Drives should be working perfect.
