battery health is one important reason here bro. if you notice any app crash or other hangs while using normally, then consider changing battery if you are planning to use the device for another 2 years. that will help fixing it.

First we should turn off low power mode to let backup run in the background bro. make sure to leave iPHone connected to charger and wifi connected, that will run the background uploads for system and apps.
Try to reduce the storage overall inside whatsapp settings chats and storage. groups, individual chats specific data storage duplicate data or unwanted media contents can be deleted. this way you can clear out more space and upload will be lot easier.
Google drive not useful here. Whatsapp only uses iCloud service with iPhone.
