Its been a week after ios 26 update most of the times AirPods doesn’t connect automatically and when i do try to connect automatically phone gets freezing for a while and nothing works
This could be a device specific issue bro. I am using airpods for calls mostly and no such issues even in beta. can you try restarting iPhone once and check again?
if already tried, then reset airpods and pair it fresh again with iPhone. that could fix any temporary bugs.

do perform “settings - general - reset - reset all settings” once bro. then remove airpods from bluetooth settings and reset airpods too.
if its airpods 4 or airpods pro 2nd generation press and hold the button behind the case for few seconds till you see white light blink, then its reset done.
Now bring airpods closer to iPhone and pair it fresh with your iPhone.
check if the issue fixed or not.
