Yes, macbook or mac computer in general is suitable for Programming. Many Programmers are using it too. But first, you need to select the list of Programming languages you are planning to learn and use in it.
If its Web Programming language, then using Mac or Windows, both fits perfect.
If its Application Development, then choose which software you are going to use. If the software is available for macOS then Choose M1 Macbook with 16GB RAM model will be good choice for long term usage.
Discuss with your Teachers or Friends and decide which language you are planning to start with. That will help choosing the OS and computer further.
